On June 4, 1974, the Cleveland Indians hosted a promotion that seemed like a great idea at the time: 10-cent beer night. What could go wrong? A lot, it turns out. As fans took full advantage of the cheap beer, the atmosphere turned chaotic. By the ninth inning, the combination of alcohol and a heated game led to a full-blown riot. Fans stormed the field, fights broke out, and the game had to be forfeited to the Texas Rangers. It’s now remembered as one of the most disastrous—and notorious—promotions in baseball history.
